Adaptive Fashion

Collaboration project with Phillipp Ara at HTW Berlin, for the development, method-finding and digitalisation of an inclusive capsule collection that is age and genderneutral for people with special needs (cognitive and motoric) dressing themselves that also has a fashion  relevance and therefor appeals to everyone interested in multiway-wearable fashion.

PROJECT:

Idea & Concept: Phillipp Ara

Design & Digital Realisation: Andrea Doering

HTW Berlin, WS‘ 2021/2022

CONCEPT:

The japanese concept of wabi-sabi embraces beauty in imperfection, simplicity and transience such as aging processes, as well as valueing repaired and mended „things“, ackknowledging all things are ephemeral.

CUSTOMER GROUPS
Adults and elderly people with special needs dressing or age-related motoric restrictions
Children with special needs dressing
Fashion concious people of all age and gender

CHALLENGES
1) Catering to different special needs
2) Acknowledging differences in taste/colour according to age
3) Durable, sustainable quality & choice of materials
4) Adeptive solutions – tailored to customer group needs
5) Fashion relevance – garments shouldn‘t visually implicate special needs or impairment
6) Accessible pricepoint = restricted range/reduced detailing/economic production/modular construction
